7.5.14 Brad has broken his C4 vertebrae on the landing ramp of the big air kicker at Lake Ronix while attempting a double-flip.
Brad Smeele (pronounced 'Smay-la') became a pro wakeboarder in 2012. He was extremely passionate about the sport and began announcing contests alongside Dano The Mano in 2013. In June of 2014 Brad
placed 4th at Red Bull Rising High in Hamm, Germany and became the first rider to land a double tantrum-to-blind. A few weeks later he attempted the same trick at Lake Ronix in Florida and it went terribly wrong. As he attempted the trick, he under-rotated
landing on his head and shatttering his C4 vertebrae. He was air-lifted to Orlando Hospital were they determined he would be a quadrapalegic. His injury shook the entire wakeboard industry and the
Brad Smeele Foundation was created. He spent several months in intensive care before going to Atlanta to begin rehab. On October 20th, 2014 he was finally able to
fly back home to New Zealand where he continues his rehab with the support of his friends and family. #STAYSTRONGBRAD
