If you follow wakeboarding then you already know who all these riders are, but if you don't, pay attention. There are so many talented wakeboarders in the world that it can be overwhelming to try keep up with them all. We've done the work for you and selected a list of 10 riders that everyone should be paying attention to this year. If you've never heard of anyone on this list, you better catch up quick!
ON THE BOAT:
Cory just had the most successful rookie season since Parks Bonifay in 1995 landing on the podium in 9 of the 15 events he competed in. He placed #2 in the Pro Wakeboard Tour standings after winning the last stop with the world's first wake-to-wake 1080 in a contest run. We're confident we'll see another w2w 1080 in competition this year as well as some w2w Double-Flips and some possibly another trick or two that has never been landed before. At only 18 years old, Cory has a very long exciting career ahead of him.
Some would argue that Mike Dowdy is currently the best boat rider in the world, having landed multiple tricks that no rider has ever landed before, like the wake-to-wake 1260 he threw in his Real Wake video, or the Double Roll-to-Blind that he won 2014's Trick of the Year with. Dowdy is certainly capable of making his way to the top of the podium at any competition and we're excited to watch him compete this year!
Harley has been completely dominant for the past five years and it seems like he wins almost every competition. Last year he won 12 of the 18 events he competed and also earned himself the world's first perfect 100 score at the Masters after landing THREE double-flips in a single run. While we have no doubt Harley will continue his success into the 2016 season, both Cory and Mike Dowdy will be at his heels the entire season and it'll be exciting to see who comes out on top!
Massi might not have the string of podium statistics to impress you that the previous three riders have but there's no doubt that he's just as good. Massi has a unique style that is incredibly impressive to watch and has a lot of banger tricks, including the only rider to land a wake-to-wake 3-to-3 (360, rewind 360). While he struggled in competition for most of the year, he finished the season in the best way possible taking 1st place at the IWWF World Championships, beating out Harley, Cory and Phil Soven.
Noah had a great sophomore year in wakeboarding landing on the podium 6 times and making finals at almost every event. He's incredibly consistent and we have a feeling he's going to continue his success into the 2016 season despite having shoulder surgery during the off-season.
Dom had one of the greatest years in the history cable wakeboarding last year, winning FISE, Plastic Playground and Harbour Reach - the three most elite contests of the year. While Dom is a Features Only rider, he's perfected his style and is one of the most creative riders out there. We don't expect his success to stop in 2016.
Daniel has won just about every contest there is to win, including Wake Awards "Best Wake Park Rider" for the fourth consecutive year - and he's only 18 years old. Daniel is known as one of the most fearless wakeboarders on the planet, going bigger than everyone else and coming up with lines that no one would would ever think of. He's definitely one of the most entertaining riders to watch and always a fan favorite!
Dominik Gührs is probably the most well-rounded cable wakeboarder out there - able to compete at the highest level in any division. He's the current WWA Cable World Champion and he just got his first pro-model wakeboard called "Breach". We're excited to see what he does with it in 2016!
Aaron made it on the podium in 6 of the 8 events he competed in last year including a win at the WWA Wake Park World Championships in the Features Only division for the second consecutive year. He's an incredibly exciting rider to watch and we know he'll continue his success into 2016. Be sure to keep your eye out for his signature "Truck Driver" 3-to-1 (Grabbing the board with both hands - one arm through the handle - and performing a 360, to rewind backside 180). - It's the last trick in this video.
In 2015 Busty landed two tricks that no other rider has ever landed before - a Toeside Backside 1260, and an Air Back Mobe 720. He then took the triple-win at the last stop of The Wake Park World Series, winning the Features Only division, the Traditional Cable division, and the Best Trick contest. Don't underestimate Busty's small size - he'll kick your ass on the water.
